Technical Advice & Consulting
Activities
My professional experience includes substantive work on fisheries and aquaculture across technical, governance and capacity-building dimensions. At ECLAC, I worked closely with FAO and other partners on the compilation, validation and analysis of fisheries, aquaculture and marine ecosystem statistics, contributing to the development of SDG 14 and related environmental indicators and supporting national counterparts through technical workshops focused on indicator construction, metadata and reporting. I have hands-on experience auditing sustainable aquaculture practices through my work with Ecocert Swiss AG and Ecocert Chile, conducting on-site and remote assessments against international standards (ASC, MSC Chain of Custody, EU Organic, Naturland, Biosuisse and Whole Foods Market), with particular attention to environmental performance, traceability and compliance. In parallel, I have carried out stakeholder mapping and engagement processes in the context of fisheries and aquaculture initiatives, including through my consultancy work with WWF, where I supported Aquaculture Improvement Projects by engaging producers, NGOs and technical experts to identify certification gaps and agree on improvement pathways. This experience has been complemented by formal training in marine spatial planning at the University of Cádiz and applied research on the governance of areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ), focusing on institutional arrangements, policy coherence and the science–policy interface relevant to fisheries and ocean management.
Skills
I am an environmental governance professional and marine biologist with over eight years of experience working at the science–policy interface on ocean, climate and biodiversity issues in Latin America and the Caribbean. Alongside my technical expertise in marine spatial planning, ocean governance and capacity development, I bring strong interpersonal and coordination skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, facilitate constructive dialogue, and build trust across institutional and cultural contexts. I am highly organized, detail-oriented and accustomed to managing complex tasks under tight deadlines, while maintaining clear communication and close coordination with supervisors and multidisciplinary teams. My experience within the United Nations system, particularly through consultancy work with ECLAC, has strengthened my ability to translate technical information into clear, accessible outputs and to contribute proactively, reliably and flexibly to team-based, results-oriented processes.
