Activities
As a
technical staff working in a regulatory agency, one of our tasks is to help
develop policies and programs in aid of promoting the RE sector. Recently, I
was a part of the team that worked on the revision of the omnibus guidelines
for the award and administration of RE contracts which was refined to further support
RE project development.
Insofar
as ocean energy sector initiatives, I contributed to the 2023 stocktake and
options report for the Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) potential in the
Philippines by providing insights on relevant government initiatives and
processes re: ocean energy development. I am also supporting the preparation
phase for the project with the Mitigation Action Facility on establishing pilot
ocean energy systems in the Philippines. Lastly, I helped arrange the conduct
of two (2) fora/webinars to increase awareness on PH ocean energy potential.
As
for hydropower-focused involvement, I currently support the technical
assistance project on enhancing hydroenergy storage viability with the
Southeast Energy Transition Partnership. I also assisted in development of the project
proposal on the inventory and masterplan of large impounding and pumped storage
hydro in the Philippines that was submitted to JICA under the Technical
Cooperation program.
Regarding
more public-facing duties, one of my tasks involves extending assistance to
local government units by identifying potential hydropower energy sites within
their areas of jurisdiction. The output of this is a preliminary technical
report on hydropower resource assessment potential in their areas which also
includes recommendations for RE development, as applicable. As briefly
mentioned above, the Bureau currently supports the Bangsamoro government (BG)
in the operationalization of its mandate. In relation to this, I have
facilitated several trainings designed to capacitate the RE group of the BG,
specifically, on the award and administration of RE contracts and conducting potential
hydropower resource assessments
