Activities
EARLY CAREER RESEARCHER: Research and analysis in physical and biogeochemical oceanography with a focus on oceanographic data processing, analysis of coastal upwelling dynamics based on coupled modelling approaches to assess the impact of nutrient and chlorophyll enrichment and climate variability on the Congolese upwelling system.
Skills
With expertise in physical oceanography, my work focuses on the analysis of coastal upwelling dynamics and their impacts, in particular on the Congolese upwelling system. Using a coupled modelling approach, I assess the seasonal drivers of upwelling off the Congo coast and its impact on marine ecosystems. My skills include
- Data processing and analysis: Proficient in MATLAB (Python:medium)) for the analysis of complex oceanographic data, especially in the context of upwelling systems and their seasonal variability.
- Modelling and simulation: Extensive experience with high resolution models, such as the NEMO model, to investigate mesoscale processes affecting heat and salt budgets in the eastern tropical Atlantic.
- Algorithm development: Development of an automatic correction algorithm for Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) measurements from TSG data, using ARGO data, which improved salinity accuracy.
- Research applications: Expertise in assessing the impact of upwelling on nutrient and chlorophyll levels, focusing on the implications for local fisheries and the impact of climate variability on the coastal upwelling system in the Gulf of Guinea.
My research integrates in situ and satellite observations with modelling techniques to improve the understanding of coastal upwelling systems in Africa, particularly in regions where local economic activities are heavily dependent on fisheries productivity.
Comment(s)
My research interest is related to physical and biogeochemical
oceanography in using a coupled modeling approach. My recent studies
focus on the seasonal upwelling dynamics and its impacts off Congo by
using a modeling approach. During my studies, I am mainly focusing on
identifying the key mechanisms involved in the Congolese Upwelling
System. For the next challenge, I would like to assess the impact of
upwelling on nutrient and chlorophyll enrichment on the Congolese
continental shelf. I would also like to investigate the impact of
climate variability on the coastal upwelling system in the Gulf of
Guinea, and in particular on the Congolese upwelling system.
