My research focuses on marine litter and microplastic pollution in marine and freshwater environments. I am also interested in environmental chemistry and pollution, with a special emphasis on contaminants such as mercury, other trace metals, persistent organic pollutants and pharmaceuticals and personal care products. My research is based on experimental field research and laboratory studies and combines methods from analytical chemistry, atmospheric chemistry and soil biogeochemistry and hydrology.
