Activities
Supports the Senior Scientific Officer - Engineering Geology in providing geoscientific information and advice through geotechnical, geohazard, and aggregate resource assessments that will support the sustainable development of economic minerals in Fiji.
Skills
1. Conduct engineering geology projects and programs in liaison with the Senior Scientific Officer Engineering Geology.
2. Conduct geotechnical site foundation investigations for potential future developments such as buildings, dams, bridges, and other development areas in response to request from other government departments and the private sector and site investigations to identify sources of aggregate materials [hard rock and river gravel] for construction and development purposes.
3. Conduct geotechnical research aimed at providing basic information for planning and mitigation purposes and identifying and assessing areas of geological hazards, particularly landslides, coastal erosion, and inundation in liaison with the Senior Scientific Officer – Engineering Geology.
4. Support the Senior Scientific Officer in managing the quality control of the preparation of samples for geotechnical analysis.
5. Populate, maintain and upgrade of the landslide and aggregate databases.
