1. To conduct research on hydrodynamics of estuarine systems along the Kenyan Coast. 2. To monitor two GLOSS tide guages installed at the ports of Mombasa and Lamu, use the data collected to produce tide predictions for our ports. 3. Cruise Coordinator for Kenya in the Agulhas and Somali Current Large Marine Ecosystem (ASCLME) Project 4. GLOSS Regional Coordinator for the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region. 5. One of the Lead Scientists in the WIOMSA-MASMA funded regional project on Mangroves and Climate Change. 6. Programme Coordinator of Marine Environment & Ecology Programme (MEEP) at KMFRI.

Capacity in the area of Physical Oceanography in the WIO region has been fairly enhanced through postgraduate training and regional workshops. There should be deliberate efforts to provide researchers in the region with oceanographic equipments including research vessels to enhance oceanograhic research in the WIO region.
