Activities
I am a researcher and professor of several graduate level courses, including Introduction to the cultivation of microorganisms for use in biotechnology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Introduction to Genetic Engineering. My experience and interest in marine biotechnology dates from the completion of my thesis in biology (isolation and characterization of marine yeasts), and later my master's degree (isolation of halotolerant yeasts) and doctorate (obtaining an antioxidant enzyme and cloning its coding sequence to from a marine yeast).
My current research interests are mainly: Marine yeast ecology and biotechnology, Obtaining bioactive compounds from marine organisms and Ecological and molecular studies of HABs´ species.
