Activities
I am responsible for data entry, manipulation and categorisation in a 4 million plus row RDMS. I curate a wide range of marine data generated by government, academic and commercial organisations. My work covers; costing, ranging from £10,000 to upwards of £250,000 per project, for the data management so the data suppliers can budget for this in their funding streams; identification of which precise data types will be supplied and their origin; written and verbal liaison with the data originators to obtain discovery metadata which is used in a web portal; re-formatting of the data to a common format using international data standards and data vocabularies; performing full QA/QC procedures on the data using in-house visualisation software; writing of online documentation detailing all data management procedures carried out on the data; and full categorisation of the data and accompanying metadata in our SQL RDMS. I am also constantly looking out for areas where our data management procedures can be made more efficient and, where identified, I propose specific costed improvements to senior management.
