Core Functions:
• Continuously analyzes tropical cyclones (TCs), tropical disturbance, and their synoptic environment within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and the Extended Forecast Areas using all available meteorological data such as, but not limited to, surface and upper-air charts, satellite imageries, and weather radar scans.
• Performs real-time prognostication of the synoptic condition or systems using guidance numerical weather prediction products and other techniques, and issues public and marine TC products.
• Disseminates TC products via radio and television broadcasts, internet, instant messaging services, and other identified platforms, and coordinates with relevant agencies regarding the distribution of marine TC products to the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)
• Provides updates during Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) Meetings at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Operations Center.
• Undertakes post-season best track analysis of past TC events, prepares corresponding best track data, and issues TC technical reports.
Strategic Functions:
• Provides technical expertise as project staff or technical working group member in technical cooperation and research and development projects.
• Represent PAGASA as Alternate
Member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Member State Audit
Scheme (IMSAS) Technical Working Group
• Acts as Internal Auditor for the PAGASA Quality Management System.
Support Functions:
• Conducts lectures on TCs and other related topics to requesting clients.
• Performs the duties and responsibilities of a Marine Forecaster as the need arises.
• Performs other duties as may be required by the Chief, Marine Meteorological Services Section and the Chief, Weather Division
