Zhankun Wang is a physical oceanographer specializing in the study of observational oceanography and ocean observing systems. He received his B. S. from Ocean University of China in 2002 and his M. S. and Ph. D. from University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth in 2007 and 2009. Dr. Wang’s research focuses on oceanographic data processing methods, ocean observing systems, turbulence measurements, and large sets of data QA/QC, processing, analyzing, interpretation and management. He has been working at NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), Silver Spring, MD since Jan 2016, where he is the lead and data manager of the Global Thermosalinographs Data Stewardship project. He is also one of the PIs of the Turbulence Measurements in the Northern Gulf of Mexico project, which is to study the role of turbulence during an oil/gas spill.
