Build foundational knowledge of marine biodiversity data through OBIS to introduce data standards and formats for publication (IPT), processing, accessing, analyzing, and visualization.
Aims and objectives:
- Expand the network of OBIS collaborators
- Improving the quality of marine biodiversity data
- Increase knowledge of international standards and best practices related to marine biodiversity data
- Increase the amount of freely accessible data published through OBIS and its OBIS nodes
- Increase the use of OBIS data for science, species conservation and area-based management applications
Expected learning outcomes:
- Understand structured marine biodiversity marine data and increase knowledge of international standards and best practices related to observational, monitoring, species, diversity, genetic and marine data.
- Expand the network of regular OBIS data providers by making the flow of data to the responsible node manager as seamless as possible, allowing the best quality data to enter OBIS.

- Marine data managers
- NODC or ADU
- OBIS staff working with marine biodiversity data
Course content:
Learner assesment:
Learning will be assessed by the delivery of the results of each practice carried out per module and through online tests. The course certificate is obtained with 100% completion of the tasks and evaluations in addition to attendance at the online lectures.
Language of instruction: Spanish
Duration: 40 hours in online mode
Construir un conocimiento básico de los datos de la biodiversidad marina a través de OBIS para introducir los estándares y formatos de datos para la publicación (IPT), el procesamiento, el acceso, el análisis y la visualización.
Resultados del Aprendizaje
- Comprender los datos biodiversidad marinos estructurados y aumentar el conocimiento de las normas internacionales y las mejores prácticas relacionadas con los datos de observación, seguimiento, especies, diversidad, genética y marinos
- Ampliar la red de proveedores habituales de datos del OBIS haciendo que el flujo de datos hacia el gestor del nodo responsable sea lo más fluido posible, permitiendo que los datos de mejor calidad entren en el OBIS.
Público Objetivo
- Proveedores de datos: Gestores de datos marinos, personal de NODC o ADU/OBIS que trabaja con datos de biodiversidad marina, Puntos Focales Nacionales de Biodiversidad Marina
- Científicos: Investigadores de expediciones de biodiversidad marina y comunidad científica que trabaja con datos de biodiversidad marina
Pre-requisitos del curso
- Los candidatos deben tener conjuntos de datos biodiversidad marinos para trabajar durante los ejercicios prácticos.
- Tengan interés o nuevas responsabilidades en el trabajo con datos y/o información marina.
- Tener un conocimiento práctico del español y del inglés.
