In 2005, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) Assembly at its 23rd Session decided, by Resolution XXIII-12, to create the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (IOTWMS) to be governed by an Intergovernmental Coordination Group (ICG/IOTWMS).
At its 13th Session, held in Bali, Indonesia during 28 November to 1 December 2022, the ICG/IOTWMS decided to organise the 14th Session in Indonesia back-to-back with the 2nd UNESCO-IOC Global Tsunami Symposium.
The 14th session of the ICG/IOTWMS is being organised by the UNESCO-IOC Secretariat for the ICG/IOTWMS and hosted by the Republic of Indonesia through its Agency for Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) at the Sheraton Jakarta Soekarna Hatta Airport Hotel in Jakarta. The Session will review progress of the IOTWMS workplan and decide on recommendations to enhance tsunami warning and preparedness in the Indian Ocean region. It will be conducted in hybrid mode.
A Field Trip is organised for 16 November 2024.
